Wheel of The Year - Spring Equinox

Acknowledgment
For much of my life, the Spring Equinox was just a date on the calendar that marked the official “first day of spring.” I never really paused to notice it, let alone celebrate it. But now, the equinox feels like a sacred turning point. A moment when the earth is perfectly balanced between light and dark, inviting us to reflect on our own inner balance and what we’re ready to grow. The Spring Equinox, also called Ostara in some traditions, is a time of renewal, awakening, and planting new seeds, both literally and metaphorically. This year, I’m honoring this season of new life in a way that feels meaningful and grounded.

Intention
The Spring Equinox invites us to come back into balance between doing and being, light and shadow, rest and movement. My intention this year is to gently awaken what’s been dormant in me. To notice what feels ready to grow. To plant seeds that reflect who I’m becoming, not just who I’ve been. Whether your intention is to slow down, begin something new, or simply feel more connected to nature, naming that intention is a beautiful way to mark this seasonal shift.

Events
You probably won’t see Spring Equinox parades or neighborhood parties and that’s part of the magic. You get to decide what this day means to you. Whether you create a solo ritual, invite a few friends into the process, or simply step outside and breathe in the season there’s no right or wrong way to honor the equinox. It’s about presence, not performance.

Celebrate with Rituals
Start simple. Ask yourself: What do I need right now? What part of me is waking up? Choose a practice that supports that answer. Your ritual might involve movement, stillness, planting, reflection, or creativity. You don’t have to do everything. Just choose what feels nourishing and let the rest go.

Ritual Ideas

🌱 Balance Meditation or Nature Walk
Take time to reflect on balance in your life. You might sit quietly and meditate on where you’ve been out of alignment or take a slow, intentional walk outside, noticing signs of spring. Let nature remind you that balance isn’t static it’s a dance.

🌸 Spring Altar or Seasonal Table
Create a small altar with symbols of spring: flowers, seeds, eggs, soft colors, or anything that feels like a reflection of new life. Let this be a place to center yourself, light a candle, or hold your intentions.

🕊️ Egg Blessing or Seed Planting
Eggs have long been a symbol of fertility and potential. Hold an egg in your hands and speak your hopes or dreams aloud, then bury it in the earth or compost as a symbolic offering. Or plant seeds herbs, veggies, flowers and as you do, think about what you want to nurture in the coming months.

🧼 Spring Cleaning with Intention
Give your space a gentle refresh open the windows, clear clutter, or sweep your floors with love. As you clean, visualize making space for fresh energy and new beginnings. You might even add a cleansing element like lemon water, rosemary bundles, or a favorite playlist.

📜 Write and Plant Your Intentions
Write down one or two things you want to grow this season. Something small, clear, and heartfelt. Bury the paper in soil, tuck it into a plant pot, or place it on your altar. Let it be your reminder that everything starts with a seed.

🥚 Host a Gentle Equinox Meal
If you’re up for gathering, prepare a seasonal meal using fresh ingredients and invite each person to share what they’re hoping to cultivate in the months ahead. Keep it simple and nourishing this isn’t about performance, it’s about connection.

Closing Thoughts

The Spring Equinox reminds us that life is always returning. That what feels barren now may bloom tomorrow. That balance isn’t about perfection it’s about noticing. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You’re allowed to change your mind, replant seeds, and rest along the way. However you mark this moment, may it feel like an act of remembering: You are a part of nature. And nature always knows how to begin again.
